Shavkat Rakhmonov isn't worried about Conor McGregor possibly returning to the UFC and skipping the queue to get a welterweight title shot.

McGregor hasn't competed in the UFC for more than three years and while he has most often competed at Featherweight and Lightweight, he has on occasion hinted at the possibility of targeting a tilt at welterweight gold.

While the Irishman's record wouldn't earn him a title shot - he has just one MMA win to his name since 2016 - his position as the most famous fighter on the roster could be enough to convince Dana White to give McGregor a crack at becoming a three-weight champion.

29-year-old Rakhmonov isn't worried about this however as he believes the UFC will do the right thing and award a title shot to someone who is worthy.

“To be honest, I don’t even think about when’s Conor going to fight, [and] when he’s going to be ready,” the number 3 ranked welterweight in the UFC told MMA Fighting.

“I don’t think about all that. He’s been getting ready to fight for a long time but wasn’t able to do that yet. So, in my head, I don’t really think about him [maybe] winning this one fight in three years. [Is that] going to do something?

“I understand he’s a big star but in my head, I don’t see it being possible, I believe UFC is the best and the most fair organization, so I believe they’re going to do everything right.”

With a dearth of contenders to Belal Muhammad's 170 pound crown, McGregor could force his way into the picture if he were to get back to winning ways. He would actually have to make it to fight night however, something which he hasn't been able to do since July 2021.

The Dubliner had been due to make his long-awaited return against Michael Chandler this Summer but that fell through when McGregor broke his toe weeks before the bout. A return in 2024 looks almost impossible now, with the UFC hinting that the Irishman could finally get back in the Octagon in 2025.
