Reports linking Neymar with a stunning return to Barcelona have been slammed as “lies” by the Brazilian’s representatives.

Neymar became one of the Saudi Pro League’s most high-profile signings when he moved from Paris Saint-Germain to Al-Hilal last year in a deal worth £68million.

Al-Hilal, who have cut a name for themselves as one of the game’s biggest spenders, agreed a two-year deal with Neymar last year that is understood to be worth £130million a year, making him one of the world's best-paid footballers.

During the transfer, Neymar’s former club Barcelona were tipped to buy the forward back from PSG, whom Neymar joined in a world-record £198million move in 2017.

Despite Neymar’s move to Saudi Arabia, the rumours of a shock return to La Liga have not abated, with the 32-year-old said to be interested in ending his time in the Middle East.

However, the superstar’s camp have now vociferously denied the rumours, emphasising his commitment to his Saudi Pro League employers.

In a statement, the camp said: “The articles on Ney's return to Barça from Al Hilal are LIES and tremendous disrespect for Al Hilal and the athlete,” as per Fabrizio Romano.

“Neymar is under contract with Al Hilal and he's happy in Riyadh. Soon he returns to the pitch to delight the fans.”

Injuries have plagued the former PSG star since his transfer to the PIF-backed Al-Hilal. Neymar has made just five appearances during his time with the club and scored one goal.

He missed 271 days last season after being injured in his first few Al-Hilal appearances and subsequently needing to undergo corrective surgery that has required extensive rehabilitation.

Neymar is expected to return to action after stepping up recovery efforts.
