Big boost for Ireland as Evan

Ireland have been handed a welcome boost as Evan Ferguson returned to the Brighton squad on Tuesday.

Ferguson has been sidelined since late last season with an ankle injury but will be a welcome boost to new boss Heimir Hallgrímsson ahead of the upcoming international break.

Hallgrimsson faces a tough task with home games against England and Greece at the beginning of September but Ferguson could now be available to play.

The Bettystown man was an unused substitute as Brighton beat Crawley Town in their Carabao Cup tie.

Corkman Mark O'Mahony was on the scorers list for Brighton after netting a goal in the 86th minute. The 19-year-old came off the bench in the ninth minute for new signing Matt O'Riley. O'Mahony joined Brighton from Cork City in 2023.

Seamus Coleman made his season debut for Everton, starting in their cup tie against Doncaster Rovers.

The club captain shrugged off an injury to put in 66 minutes for the side as they progressed to the next round. Jake O'Brien was also given the starting nod by Sean Dyche.

Ireland boss Hallgrimsson will name his squad for the two upcoming UEFA Nations League clashes later this week.
