It's the reunion of the decade and a reconciliation that few saw coming - but finally, warring brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher have made up and are set to go on tour.

The legendary Oasis siblings officially announced this morning that they will hit the road in 2025 together and play their first shows for 16 years, beginning with 14 dates in the UK and Ireland before heading on a world tour.

In a joint statement, they said: "The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised." And a long wait it has been after Noel refused to work with his little brother for "a day longer" in 2009.

But now, the Manchester siblings have worked things out and will regroup to mark their debut album's 30th anniversary. But what's the real reason they're back together? And how did it all pan out? The Mirror takes a look...

The main reason for their reunion has been put down to their Irish mother Peggy Gallagher, who has always pushed for her sons to stop arguing and mend their long-term feud. Speaking to Radio 1 in 2017, Liam said: "I'll speak to him some day. It's all very sad, but we'll get over it... I guess it musn't be nice for my mum."

He told Radio 2: "It would be lovely for my mum. I'm not arsed about the band. It would be lovely for two brothers to be talking and for my mum. The families have not seen each other and my kids haven't seen his kids, I haven't seen his kids, all that would be great. And then maybe we could get the band back together or maybe not but that would be nice."

When Liam took Peggy, who hails from Co Mayo, on a spa break to celebrate her 80th last year, it's believed she told him to try with Noel just one last time. "Peggy has told Liam to mend the rift and she is hoping there will be genuine reconciliation," a source told The Sun. "Peggy was in a reflective mood and it would be the best birthday present if they'd finally make some steps towards patching up their feud."

Peggy had her say in the 2016 film about the brothers as she revealed: "I think there was that bit of jealously with Liam and Noel. Noel was beautiful as a baby and then Liam comes along - it takes the limelight off you. You could tell disagreement was there with them. I was glad they were in a band together. I would not have wanted Liam in a band without Noel. But it all happened too quick."

She recalled the day Liam got his first recording contract and said: "Of course, I thought 'This is great'. I never really thought it would go the way it did, though. Liam said 'All I want, mum, is to earn a bit of money and get myself some new clothes'. And then it all went haywire."

Former Oasis guitarist Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, who has remained mutual friends with them both, is also understood to have urged them to patch things up, along with singer Liam's fiancee Debbie Gwyther. A source close to the negotiations told the Mirror : "For years, Debbie has been trying to get Liam and Noel to patch things up. Bonehead is one of the few people they are both pals with and he has recently been trying too and it's finally paid off."

Some industry sources have also suggested that Noel's performance on BBC Two's Later... With Jools Holland in 2023 was the moment that convinced him it was time to bury the hatchet. One source told Mail Online : "Poor Noel went on Jools Holland: he thought it would be fun and would raise his profile for his musical projects. It backfired.

"He found himself laughed at - the social media comments were brutal. Then to think Liam was away having a great time singing Oasis songs while he was singing someone else's tunes seemed ridiculous." Sources told the publication that their varied fortunes last year made Noel "realise just what he was missing".

Another source has suggested that Noel finally changed his mind after a late-night phone call. They told The Sun : "Noel and Liam are never going to be the best of friends but they want to bring Oasis back for the fans. They aren't getting any younger and the demand is huge. They decided it was now or never.

"Noel dug his heels in for a long time but has finally caved and agreed to return. He spoke to Liam on the phone and they are on the same page. They know this reunion will go down in music history."

Insiders told the newspaper that the atmosphere was "electric" when the brothers got together in "top secret" to photograph their tour posters, with one source saying: "It was a pinch me moment to have Noel and Liam together. It has taken a lot to get them to this point but they're thinking of the fans."

Gallaghers
The atmosphere at their photoshoot was said to be 'electric' and 'fizzing'

They explained that "barely anyone knew" about the photoshoot and the room was "fizzing" with good vibes as the siblings snapped historic pics. They added: "It is something so many people never thought would happen. But now the brakes have been taken off - and it's going to be mad."

In a press release put out by the Gallaghers this morning to promote the gigs, it stated: "The Oasis live experience is unlike anything else. The roar that greets them as they step on stage. A set full of wall-to-wall classics. The spine-tingling sensation of being in a crowd singing back every word. And especially the charisma, spark and intensity that only comes when Liam and Noel Gallagher are on-stage together."

Tickets for Oasis 25 Live go on sale on Saturday and the shows are expected to be the most sought after tickets in British music history. The OASIS LIVE 25 world tour will hit Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin in the summer of 2025 before heading to other venues outside Europe.

Tickets for the Dublin dates at Croke Park will be available from 8am on Saturday, August 31 from Ticketmaster HERE.
