Darren Gleeson hasn’t wasted much time in returning to inter-county management after the Laois Executive proposed the Tipperary man as their new senior hurling boss.

Gleeson, who spent five years with Antrim as manager before resigning a few weeks ago, is set to be ratified by the clubs of Laois at their next County Board meeting.

The double All-Ireland winning goalkeeper will replace another Tipperary man, Willie Maher in the role.

Gleeson helped Antrim to a shock win over Wexford at Corrigan Park (Belfast) in this year’s Leinster Championship, while they also beat Carlow to retain their provincial status for next year.

He also guided the Saffrons two a pair of Joe McDonagh Cup wins and a Division 2 league title.

Laois were beaten by Offaly in the McDonagh Cup this summer. Gleeson is still playing in goals for his Portroe club.
