Gardai arrest man following 'disturbance' along Grand Canal
Gardaí were alerted reportedly to 'two lads with metal bars threatening the refugees'
Gardaí arrested a man in Dublin on Saturday evening after reports of a disturbance along the Grand Canal, near where asylum seekers have been sleeping rough.
Officers were called to the scene of a disturbance on Warrington Place at around 7:40pm after authorities were reportedly alerted to “two lads with metal bars threatening the refugees”.
In a video of the arrest, seen by the Irish Mirror, a man can be heard saying “Brother, come on now please”, as Gardaí begin to search him. When Gardaí tell the man to put his hands behind his back and that he has been “arrested for possession of an offensive weapon” the man can be heard replying “Are you serious brother?”

A man, who is aged in his 50s, has since been charged in relation to the incident and is due to appear before the courts at a later date.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed the arrest to the Irish Mirror: “Gardaí arrested a man (50s) following reports of a disturbance on Warrington Place, Dublin 2 at approximately 7:40pm on Saturday, 24 August.
“The man was subsequently charged and will appear before the courts at a later date.”
