Chelsea could have an advantage in their bid to sign Jadon Sancho - as the player has made no secret of the fact that he was a Blues fan growing up.

The England winger, 24, is back in the fold at Manchester United after being exiled by Erik ten Hag last year but is still being courted by a handful of clubs ahead of next week's transfer deadline.

Chelsea and Juventus are among the clubs who are understood to be keen on signing the former Borussia Dortmund star, who has struggled to replicate his dazzling Bundesliga form in the Premier League.

Sancho was left out of the Manchester United squad that lost 2-1 to Brighton on Saturday and it has since emerged that Chelsea could attempt to strike a swap deal.

That's according to a new report from The Mail, who claim that Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell could be used as makeweights in a deal to bring Sancho to Stamford Bridge.

And while Sancho has not given any indication as to whether or not he would still like to move on from Old Trafford this summer, previous comments he's made about his upbringing as a Chelsea fan indicate that a move to West London could appeal.

When he was asked about his idols during an interview shortly before his move to United, Sancho said: "I'd probably say Frank Lampard, I was a Chelsea fan growing up, I can't lie! Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard were my favourite players at the time."

Manchester United have been active in the summer transfer window and further deals are expected before next week's transfer deadline, while Chelsea have spent over £1billion on new players over the last two years.

Ten Hag confirmed earlier this summer that he and Sancho had buried the hatchet after falling out last season but stressed that the winger would have to fight for a spot in the team given the emergence of talents like Alejandro Garnacho and Amad.

Speaking on Saturday the Dutchman said of Sancho: “He is here but we had some issues. I had a choice to make. He has to compete for his position.

“We need in the squad every position double because it’s going to be a long season."
