Manchester United have not given up on signing Jarrad Branthwaite despite signing Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro this summer.

The Red Devils have spent more than £100million reinforcing their defensive options after seeing multiple bids turned down for the Everton star. There is however an admission that the move won't come before the end of the month.

Branthwaite remains on United's radar ahead of a prospective move in the next 12 months, reports Mail Online. The club offered as much as £50m before completing a £58.9m deal with Lille for Yoro and more recently landing De Ligt for £42.8m.

The 22-year-old defender is said to have drawn interest from Manchester City and Liverpool this summer. Everton have made it clear they no intention of selling Jarrad Branthwaite to Liverpool however.

Should Branthwaite not depart Goodison Park, United plan to act upon their interest once again. The Toffees star still has three years remaining on his contract with the Merseyside club.

Everton's valuation of the Carlisle United youth product is in the region of £75m and Sean Dyche currently plans to have Branthwaite at his disposal for the season. The central defender missed Everton's opening game of the season versus Brighton with a groin problem.

Manager Sean Dyche has admitted the the club's financial situation could dictate the business they do this month and beyond however. That could be something United look to take advantage of moving forwards.

"I'm confident that the club are going to do the best they can to make sure we’re competitive, said Dyche. "But, equally, the club's got an outside picture which is quite obvious and that’s not something I can control.

"They do need to balance the finances better, we've done a lot of work with that since I've been here, and Kev [Thelwell] obviously is included in that, on the playing side to bring money in and lower the wage bill. We've done a pretty fair job, I would say of that, but the bigger picture of the club is dependent on what money is needed at any given time."

For the moment however, United's priority is strengthening their midfield. Manuel Ugarte appears to be the side's No.1 target as they look to strengthen the position by negotiating a deal for the PSG star.
