Kellie Harrington has revealed how she celebrated her Olympic gold medal win by going for a McDonald's in the early hours of the morning in Paris.

Although the Dubliner joked that it felt like a meet-and-greet as she was surrounded by locals after her historic victory over China's Wenlu Yang in the 60kg final.

Harrington didn't get out of Roland Garros until after 2am by the time she underwent anti-doping tests and headed for a McDonald's before spending the following day in the Olympic Village with her wife Mandy.

The Portland Row native told RTE Radio 1's Morning Ireland: "I had to go and do anti-doping tests, which is great. I think that should be absolutely vital that everyone gets tested so we didn't get out of there until two o'clock and then we went and had a McDonald's, but it was like I was doing a meet-and-greet in McDonald's.

"It was just loads of French people, but it was great. It was really great, but I didn't get a wink of sleep then until last night so from five o'clock of the morning that I weighed in until half 11 last night I hadn't slept. I was like a zombie walking around the Olympic Village."

She added: "I didn't actually get to see much people yesterday because I was just in the room and everyone was doing all their own things and stuff, but I seen Mandy and I was just delighted to see Mandy. We got her into the Olympic Village on a day pass so she got to experience that as well."

Mandy told of her pride in her partner after the "emotional" win, saying: "It's just magic. It's very emotional, completely emotional."

She added: "It was just magic to see them all smiling, dancing, happy and it's just such a relief. They got what they deserved, they got what they worked for, they got what they came for and nobody deserves it more."

Asked how they would celebrate, Mandy replied: "I think we're just so tired, we'll probably not sleep and just enjoy it, relax, hopefully see Kellie, make sure she's okay, kind of just take it day by day and have the little wins.

"We can't wait to celebrate with her. That's the main thing."
