Ireland weather: 'Heavy bursts

Temperatures are set to gradually increase between now and the end of the week, with highs of 25C possible on Sunday before the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Each day between now and Sunday, Met Eireann anticipates the highs to continue rising but next week will bring unsettled conditions and plenty of rain.

Today, meanwhile, will be a day on which you don't want to risk leaving the house without an umbrella because "heavy bursts" are possible, particularly in the northwest and north, according to the national forecaster.

Thursday, August 8, is set to be a somewhat dull and misty day as patchy rain and drizzle is experienced across the country. The rain is expected to become heavier into the afternoon, though it will remain humid in temperatures between 17C and 21C.

Thankfully, things should brighten up for the weekend with Friday seeing plenty of sunny spells but there will be a few scattered showers, mainly affecting the west and north. Most areas will remain dry into the evening as temperatures rise to highs of potentially 22C, with Leinster enjoying the warmest weather.

Saturday will see temperatures rise again, with highs of 23C forecast, and there will be a mixture of sunshine and scattered showers, though they will primarily be confined to Connacht and Ulster in the morning.

While weather models remain uncertain for Sunday, it's currently looking like it could be the best day this week as it will be generally dry with hazy, sunny spells in temperatures as high as 25C before the evening sees persistent rain moving into the west and southwest and that trend is expected to continue into the early days of next week.
