A fundraiser has been launched to help the heartbroken family of a young Galway man who tragically passed away while in Australia as tributes pour in for the “proper gentleman”.

Ballybrit man Kevin Ruane, who had been living in Perth, Australia, sadly lost his life during the week. The beloved son of John and Kathleen, Kevin will be dearly missed by his sister Aisling, grandmother Maura Ruane, grandfather John O’Donnell as well as all his extended family and many friends.

A GoFundMe set up to help raise the funds needed to repatriate Kevin and help have some of his belongings sent home has been overwhelmed with kindness with hundreds of donations raising tens of thousands of euros.

"It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin Ruane in Perth Australia, a much loved family member, and loyal friend and colleague," A post on the GoFundMe page read.

"We are raising funds to assist with the costs associated with having Kevin brought back home to his devastated family. Our aim is to relieve some of the financial burden on Kevin’s family and to assist with the cost of having his personal belongings brought home."

"Any donations which you might be able to give will be greatly appreciated. Additional funds raised will be donated to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust and the Claddagh Association."

The fundraiser has raised a massive €57,791 after more than 800 people donated, surpassing the €10,000 goal. To donate to the GoFundMe to repatriate Kevin, head here.

Tributes have poured in for Kevin since his passing, with one person calling the Galway man a “proper gentleman” who could "never do enough for you”

"I'm devastated to learn of this. I got to know Kevin through a mutual friend and he instantly was just so nice and likeable," they said.

"He was also a proper gentleman and could never do enough for you. He’s gone from the world far before his time, and it’s beyond heartbreaking that it’s happened."
