What time is Kellie Harrington

Kellie the chameleon has one more boxer to bamboozle to claim her double Olympic gold legacy.

Tokyo golden girl Kellie Harrington is back in the ring tonight but having moved venues, from the grey and mundane North Paris Arena to the glitzier Roland Garros. Facing China's Yang Wenlu, she will be representing Ireland for the last time.

This time it is 'The Kellie Harrington Show', as she dubbed her time at her second games after out-classing Beatriz Ferreira in Saturday night's semi-final, just as she had done in the Tokyo final.

After a difficult three years as she struggled with a lack of motivation, her wife Mandy's advice to her that Tokyo was for Ireland and that Paris should be for herself provided a clarity that Harrington was able to work with.

In fact, the 34-year-old has excelled at these Games and, with the gold on the table tonight, she is already guaranteed the silver. Whatever happens, Harrington is Ireland's first female athlete to win a medal at two Games.

Alessia Milano and Angie Paola Valdes were both easily dispatched 5-0 and it should have been the same in the hugely-anticipated re-match with Ferreira, who was left chasing shadows once again, but was at least awarded the second round.

"Brilliant, fantastic," enthused Ireland's head coach Zaur Antia of the Dubliner's performance against 'The Beast' Ferreira. "There are not many like her. She reads opponents very well, she is very vibrant, and instinct guides her brilliantly.

"Everything she did, she practiced. I think it was better than in the Tokyo final. There she lost the first round, this time she won. That girl (Ferreira) is a professional champion, but amateur boxing is different.Kellie is very fast, she has good speed. For the semi-final we used her speed and changed styles.

"Very difficult (for Ferreira)...you decide to attack, you have some combination and then she’s southpaw. Then you decide something and she’s orthodox again! Their coaches are confused. That’s why she is who she is."

It was the same situation in Tokyo. Ferreira didn't know how to react to Harrington because she brought out every weapon in her repertoire. Antia sourced a sparring partner who would box like Ferreira and if paid off.

"I thought the second round was the same as the first," said Antia, although the Brazilian was awarded it 4-1. "But the last round, because she landed many punches, her opponent was frustrated, and Kellie sidestepped.

"When you’re missing, when you try to attack and your opponent is on the left side, then you turn left and your opponent is on the right, it’s very tiring, it’s very difficult. That’s why I am so happy. Now one more. Just one chance. Just one chance we have."

Harrington has only boxed Wenlu once before, in the 2016 World Championships when both were light welterweights. The Chinese boxer won a close fight 3-2 but Harrington was only really getting going then at the top level.

"The Chinese girl is a good girl," said Antia. "They met each other before, the first time Kellie went to the World championships. It was a very close fight. Kellie didn’t have too much experience and she lost but it was very close. After that, she changed lots of things.

"How many years of experience has she now? And that experience works. Look, this is excellent. We’ll try but this is not over yet. We’ll pay a lot of attention to get as much clarity as possible. Behind all this, a big job happens.

"I think she has improved more than Yang, of course. She’s the Olympic champion, the Chinese girl is not. Kellie’s a world champion, a European champion - and now one more chance."

Harrington will be in the ring at 10.06pm Irish time.
