A man accused of the murder of a 20-year-old in Tallaght replied “I’m really sorry that he died” when charged, a court heard.

Patrick Murphy, 36, of Drumcairn Parade, Tallaght appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice charged with murdering Jordan Ronan.

Mr Ronan, also known as Jordan Pakenham, was found with stab wounds at Drumcairn Avenue in Jobstown shortly before 4am on Friday. He was rushed to Tallaght Hospital but later pronounced dead.

Mr Murphy was arrested on Friday and questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Dublin garda station.

Detective Garda Stephen Neilan from Tallaght Garda Station told the court that when charged under caution he replied: “I’m really sorry that he died. I didn’t mean for this to happen.”

The accused, dressed in a yellow t-shirt and green tracksuit bottoms, did not speak during the brief court hearing. Members of Jordan Ronan’s family were present in court and shouted at Mr Murphy as he was being led from the courtroom.

Judge Michael Ramsay granted an application for legal aid after hearing that the accused is currently unemployed. Mr Murphy was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Wednesday, July 31.

A woman in her 30s was arrested on Saturday in connection with the investigation into Jordan Ronan’s death. Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward, particularly those with video recordings or dashcam footage.

Online tributes to Jordan were led by his girlfriend who posted a picture of them together captioned: “I love you my boy!”
