Single dad 'speechless' after winning huge lottery prize while in line at pharmacy
Dad of two Nick was waiting for his prescription to be filled when he found out he scratched the lottery ticket he'd just purchased and discovered he'd won
A single dad was left "speechless" after winning the lottery while waiting at a pharmacy.
Nick P, from Pennsylvania purchased a Scratch-Off ticket called Millionaire Maker at AccuServ Pharmacy in March 2023. While waiting for his prescription to be filled, Nick scratched the ticket and was shocked to discover he'd won $1million (€900,000).
“It just feels really good! I was speechless. I couldn’t believe it,” Nick told Pennsylvania Lottery officials as he was presented a commemorative cheque for the huge prize. The Westmorland County man revealed that he's a single dad to two young children.

He said he immediately thought about his kids after realising he'd won big. "I first thought about my two kids. They came to my mind first, and I just felt relief," Nick said.
At the time of his win, the dad had been working as a machinist for the past 18 years, juggling his full-time job with raising two kids. He said he plays the lottery as a treat to himself when he manages to get some free time.
“Most of the days I’m cleaning the house or running my kids to hockey practice,” he added. Nick also revealed his plans to use his winnings to create a good future for his family. "This prize means a great future for my family, and maybe some nice family vacations," he said.
Another Pennsylvania Lottery player scored an even bigger win after listening to some wise advice from a store clerk. Jeremy H bagged a $1.14million (€1M) jackpot after switching up the game he usually plays.
He explained: "I don’t normally play Match 6, but the clerk at Rutter’s told me they get a lot of winners, so for the past few months, I’ve been buying tickets once a week."
The advice paid off after he purchased Match 6 Lotto tickets for the Saturday, May 20 drawing and became a millionaire. Jeremy recalled: "I immediately called my brother and said, ‘You will never believe this!’” He added: “Then I called my other brother and then my wife. I never thought I would win anything like this in my life."
