Callum Robinson has continued his fine form in pre-season by scoring in Cardiff City's 3-0 win over German second tier side Hamburg on Sunday.

The Ireland striker netted Cardiff's third of the game when he controlled a corner and finished well from 12 yards.

Robinson has scored twice in a 7-1 win over Welsh Premier Division side Penybont five days earlier.

Cardiff are currently on a pre-season training camp in Austria as they prepare for the new Championship campaign, and they face South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday.

Robinson's form should see him go into the new campaign with confidence high, after a mixed season last year on and off the pitch.

He scored just one Championship goal last season - in a 3-2 defeat to Norwich in November - while his last Ireland goal came last October against Gibraltar.

Meanwhile, he was dropped for a spell towards the end of last season with manager Erol Bulut confirming that it was because of a 'disciplinary penalty'.

Robinson and defender Mahlon Romeo were sidelined and when asked about their absence, Bulut replied: “No, they are not injured. It's a disciplinary penalty from my side.

"We don’t need to speak about this. It is internal that we cleared it. I spoke with the player.

"I said at the start of the season that discipline and respect are the most important things for me. They were a little bit away from that. That's why they were not with us."

Robinson last played for Ireland in the 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands last November.

He wasn't included in either of John O'Shea's squads for the March or June windows, but the striker, with nine goals in 37 caps, could catch the eye of new boss Heimir Hallgrímsson if he carries his pre-season form into the new campaign.
