Tony Kelly has been a key member of the Clare hurling team since bursting onto the scene in 2012.

After winning back-to-back underage All-Ireland titles with Clare, he was called up to the senior ranks by manager Davy Fitzgerald.

Since then, Kelly has gone on to become one of the best players of his generation and was man of the match as he won his second All-Ireland title for Clare on Sunday, 11 years after picking up his first winners medal.

Kelly was just a teenager in that All-Ireland winning season of 2013, and he made history that year by becoming the first man to ever win young hurler of the year and hurler of the year in the same season.

But what about his life off the pitch?

Day Job

Tony attended the Limerick Institute of Technology and University of Limerick and returned to St. Flannan's College, the secondary school in Ennis where he was educated at as a teenager, to work as a teacher. He teaches business.

Age

Tony was born in December 1993, making him 30 years old.

Girlfriend and relationship

Tony has been in a relationship with his girlfriend Naomi McMahon since 2011. The couple are currently building a home together outside Ennis. They have stepped out on the red carpet for the All-Stars in the past.

Tony previously told RSVP Magazine: "We don’t live together but we are in the process of getting our house built at the minute.

"We are currently at the planning stage and lockdown was a great time to allow us to get organised."

Career

Tony made his debut for the Clare seniors in 2012, scoring a goal against Dublin in a qualifier in Cusack Park. The following year he was named as Hurler of the Year and Young Hurler of the Year when he was just 20 following Clare's All-Ireland win over Cork.

His senior success came after winning multiple Munster and All-Ireland medals at minor and U/21 level, including three U/21 All-Ireland's in a row, including one where he was captain, but Tony was never fazed by his fast start to a big career at such a young age.

He previously told RSVP Magazine: "When you get personal success along with the collective success of a winning team, there is obviously going to be pressure to maintain a standard.

"That is much harder to deal with when you are younger but you realise that it is not as important as you get older.

"I have learned that once you train hard collectively and individually, all you can do is your best whether you win, lose or draw."

The GAA star has also won a number of county and Munster medals with his club Ballyea. They also reached the AIB All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship final in 2017, where they lost out to Cuala in Croke Park.

His crowning glory undoubtedly came in the All-Ireland final on Sunday, when the wing-forward scored 1-4 as Clare won the All-Ireland for just the fifth time ever.
