Cork's long wait for a 31st All-Ireland senior hurling title will enter its 20th year after Sunday's heartbreaking loss to Clare in one of the greatest finals of all time.

If you had told a hurling fan after the Rebels' second successive All-Ireland win in 2005 that Cork would go almost two decades without winning the trophy again, they would have laughed in your face.

19 years later, Seán Óg Ó hAilpín remains the most recent Cork captain to climb the Hogan steps to collect the Liam MacCarthy Cup.

It wasn't for lack of trying however, as Cork died on their shields and ultimately lost by the bare minimum on Sunday. They can even feel aggrieved that a late jersey pull on Robbie O'Flynn wasn't picked up by referee Johnny Murphy.

Yet even in defeat, Cork can be proud of their performance and their showings in the Championship all summer.

Tonight, the men in red return home and will be greeted by their supporters who are full of pride for Pat Ryan's side who have given them some great moments this summer.

SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh will host this evening's homecoming, with doors set to open at 4.30pm.

A number of musical acts including The Frank and Walters, John Spillane, J90, and Myles Gaffney will be providing entertainment throughout the day.

The event is a fully ticketed occasion, and tickets can be purchased for €4 on Ticketmaster.

This evening's homecoming is a non-alcohol event.

Kevin O’Donovan, CEO of Cork GAA said, “The result may not have gone our way today, but we are so proud of Pat Ryan’s team for what they have achieved. Rebels Return will be an event for our incredible fan base.

"They have been with us throughout this year, in the rain and the sun, cheering from their homes, and painting the county the Rebel red. Let’s close this chapter in style, and start working on the next.”
