One ordinary day in 2019, labourer Loren Schauers underwent a nightmare accident which led to his body being seared in half.

Loren, of Great Falls, Montana, had been operating a forlift when it plummeted 50ft from a bridge, landing on top of him. He was conscious throughout his hellish ordeal.

By some miracle, Loren survived but sustained catastrophic injuries, with the lower half of his body completely crushed. Determined to survive, Loren made the decision to undergo hemicorporectomy surgery, where everything below his waist was amputated.

At just 18 years old, Loren's life changed forever, and he's since had to undergo treatments to heal his body, including a procedure whereby he 'put someone else's poop inside himself'...

Nowadays, Loren and his now-wife Sabia Reiche regularly document their lives on YouTube, keeping followers updated on Loren's condition, and their resolve to live as normally as possible. The couple, who tied the knot in 2021, previously opened up about surgery Loren had undergone to heal his gut - a procedure known as a faecal transplant.

Loren revealed: "I got a faecal transplant. In dirty words, it's taking someone else's poop and putting it inside of yourself just to introduce some healthy gut bacteria. And the procedure went good, really simple. It only took an hour, nice and quick. They just went straight to the colostomy, they didn't have to open me up or anything."

Sabia went on to share that they had "tried to document some of the faecal transplant" however Loren swiftly opted against this as "it's gross, you don't really want to see inside someone's colon".

According to information provided on Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) - also known as a stool or poo transplantation - works by helping rebalance bacteria and other organisms (the microbiota) in a person's intestines. The donor transplant is transferred via either a liquid or capsule preparation of FMT.

Donors, who must be free of any health issues, will undergo a rigorous screening process beforehand, including testing for various bacterial and parasitic infections.

Back in May, Loren and Sabia offered a heartbreaking update to those who've followed their journey so far, sharing that Loren was struggling to speak as he was in so much pain.

Loren, who has previously opened up about his lonely battle to make friends, said: "Welcome back guys to Sabia and Loren. Sabia will be doing most of, if not all of the talking because I am in serious pain as I'm going through another bout of C. diff - so let's listen to what Sabia has to say!"
