A citizen journalist, a gym instructor, a hairdresser and a construction worker were among 15 people who appeared in court charged with offences arising out of a serious public order incident in north Dublin.

The 13 men and two women charged with public order offences appeared before Judge Dermot Dempsey at a special late night sitting of Dublin District Court on Monday. Their charges came after a major disturbance erupted at a site designated to house asylum seekers in north Dublin.

Sergeant Peter Keenan, court presenter, gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution by way of certificate for all 15 who are charged.

Judge Dempsey granted all 15 bail on their own bonds of €300 subject to the conditions they stay away from the former Crown Paints building on the Malahide Road and not to engage in anti-social gathering and protests. The judge warned the defendants if they breach any of their conditions their bail will be revoked and they will be placed into custody. All 15 were remanded on bail to appear before Dublin District Court 4 on a date in September.
