The family of a young girl who was left critically injured following an attack in Parnell Square in Dublin last year have issued an update.

The five-year-old girl was left fighting for her life in hospital after she was stabbed in last year's horrific attack in Parnell Square on November 23, which also saw two other children and care assistant Leanne Flynn Keogh injured. Thankfully, the little girl was discharged from Temple Street Children's Hospital prior to Christmas, before beginning rehab.

A fundraiser was set up for the young girl, called Barróg do Chailín Beag or a Hug For A Little Girl, with her family sharing updates on her health as people continue to donate to the fundraiser.

In the most recent update, the family of the young girl said that their “angel warrior” is doing well and that the school hospital threw her a “lovely” event for her school tour, as they thanked everyone for their “lovely wishes”.

“Our angel warrior is doing well,” An update on the GoFundMe page read.

“She is able to stay awake all day, engage with nurses, doctors, therapists, teachers. She is becoming more certain of her answers, and her communication is clearer.

“We had a school tour yesterday. The school hospital threw a lovely event! She dressed up, played, and everyone had a lovely time.

“Thank you all so much for the lovely wishes. We are able to enjoy the whenever it is out, so here is hoping for more sunny days.”

The fundraiser has far surpassed the initial target of €500, raising a staggering €93,445. To donate, head here.

Riad Bouchaker, 50, of no fixed abode, has been charged with attempted murder of the three children, and with assault causing serious harm to the woman.
