Irish Weather: Temperatures to

Ireland will experience rare highs next week of up to 24 degrees in what has been a quite cool summer of late, but such conditions will last for only a brief period, with rain and cooler temperatures set to return within days.

Warm and largely dry weather will be the order of the weekend, with temperatures reaching highs of 21 degrees on Saturday and 23 degrees on Sunday amid light winds and a chance of patchy drizzle in the west.

Monday is likely to be warmer again with temperatures reaching highs of 24 degrees, albeit with an increased chance of rain and drizzle on what looks set to be a more overcast day than Saturday and Sunday.

According to Met Eireann, it is on Monday night into Tuesday morning when the weather will start to turn, with outbreaks of rain on Monday night followed by “unsettled” conditions on Tuesday morning, with heavy downpours likely in the west and south and only “limited” sunny spells.

While temperatures will remain high on Tuesday and stretch up to 23 degrees, they will fall towards the mid teens on Wednesday on what is promised to be another “very unsettled day with widespread rain or showers and generally overcast conditions”.

Met Eireann has not yet provided for a forecast beyond Wednesday and perhaps not surprisingly considering Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather has flagged “huge uncertainty” in the weather models beyond the middle of next week.

Promisingly, the most recent models show less rainfall than had previously been forecast, with warm air “not too far away”.

Check out the Met Eireann forecast for the coming days below:

Saturday

A largely dry and bright start this morning. A little more cloud will build across the west later with patchy outbreaks of rain or drizzle. Staying dry with sunny spells elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees with light breezes.

Mostly cloudy this evening with a little patchy drizzle in the west but most places will stay dry. Light winds and lowest temperatures overnight of 8 to 11 degrees.

Sunday

A little scattered cloud in the morning but sunny spells will develop later. A mainly dry afternoon too with light winds and quite warm too with highest temperatures of 19 to 23 degrees.

A cloudy and mostly dry night and rather mild too. A few mist or fog patches will form across the south while a light southwesterly breeze will freshen at times along western counties. Lowest temperatures overnight of 12 to 16 degrees.

Monday

Becoming rather overcast in the morning with outbreaks of patchy rain and drizzle across western counties. Staying dry further east with the best chance of any sunny spells too. Quite a mild day with highest temperatures of 21 to 24 degrees and light breezes.

Overcast with outbreaks of rain and drizzle at times on Monday night. Winds will fall light overnight allowing for some patchy mist or fog to form, mainly in the far south. Another mild night with lowest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees.

Tuesday

Becoming rather unsettled early in the morning with outbreaks of rain across the country, possibly heavy at times in the west and south. Limited sunny spells, the best of which will be in the east and north with highest temperatures of 18 to 23 degrees.

Wednesday

Latest models indicate another very unsettled day with widespread rain or showers and generally overcast conditions. A touch cooler than recent days with highs of 16 to 19 degrees and blustery winds at times too.
