Hungary’s culinary excellence was celebrated as ten restaurants across the country were awarded Michelin stars in 2024. The Michelin Guide’s prestigious ceremony, held in Budapest, showcased the nation’s thriving gastronomy.

The Platán Garden Restaurant & Rooms in Tata (northern Hungary) and Stand25 bistro in Budapest retained their coveted two Michelin stars, reaffirming their status as leading lights in Hungary’s fine dining scene.

Eight other restaurants, including newcomer Pajta in Őriszentpéter (western Hungary), secured one Michelin star this year. Returning one-star winners included 42 Esztergom (northern Hungary), Salt, Costes, Borkonyha, Babel, Rumour, and Essencia, all located in Budapest.

The Michelin Green Star for sustainability was awarded to Natura Hill in Zebegény (central Hungary), recognizing its commitment to eco-friendly practices. Another standout, Iszkor in Mályinka (northern Hungary), helmed by Ádám Pohner, was named “Opening of the Year” and also earned a spot on the Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand list, celebrating exceptional value for money.

Bib Gourmand honorees included:

  • Újváros Bistro (Szarvas, southeastern Hungary)
  • N28 Wine and Kitchen (Budapest)
  • Goli (Budapest)
  • Platán Bistro (Tata)
  • Macok (Eger, northern Hungary)
  • Morzsa (Pécs)
  • Casa Christa (Balatonszőlős, northern shore)
  • Sparhelt (Balatonfüred, northern shore)
  • Kistücsök (Balatonszemes, southern shore)
  • Anyukám Mondta (Encs, northern Hungary)

Fact

The Bib Gourmand distinction, introduced in 1997 by Michelin inspectors, highlights restaurants offering exceptional cuisine at moderate prices. Represented by the red Michelin Bibendum icon, it signals outstanding value for money in dining.

Other awards recognized individual excellence: Levente Lendvai (Virtu) received the Best Young Chef Award, Mátyás Székely of 42 Esztergom was named Best Sommelier, and N28 Wine and Kitchen earned the Best Service Award.

The Michelin Selected Restaurants shortlist featured additional culinary gems, such as Szaletly, Kollázs, and Zazie Bistro in Budapest, as well as notable countryside venues.

This year’s accolades reaffirm Hungary’s position as a culinary destination, with a rich blend of innovation, sustainability, and world-class dining experiences.
