Hungary’s foreign relations have been strengthened through its collaboration with the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), as highlighted by the recent visit of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó to Kyrgyzstan.

Péter Szijjártó emphasized Hungary’s record-breaking trade growth with OTS member states, marking a 350% increase over the last 15 years. The Foreign Minister also highlighted that Hungary’s economic ties with OTS countries, now exceeding USD 5B in trade, have grown significantly, aligning with Viktor Orbán’s earlier statement about the increasing cooperation between Hungary and the Turkic states.

As Mr. Szijjártó noted, Hungary benefits from this growing partnership, emphasizing that the bond is not only based on mutual interests but on shared successes.

A key area of collaboration has been in education and energy. Minister Szijjártó reported a record number of over 5,000 students from OTS countries applying for Hungarian scholarships, while Hungary has bolstered its energy security through new gas supply partnerships with Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan.

Hungary’s commitment to peace is also a cornerstone of its foreign policy. The Foreign Minister reiterated Hungary’s pro-peace stance in the face of the Ukraine conflict, contrasting with Western nations’ pro-war positions, and advocating for a diplomatic resolution to global conflicts.

Looking ahead, Hungary plans to host the 2025 informal summit of the OTS, continuing its active role in international cooperation.

Hungary’s engagement with the Turkic states is set to expand further, with discussions on civil protection and digital economy initiatives on the horizon.
