The Hungarians finished with four podium places at the canoe-kayak Super Cup in Hangzhou, China, last weekend.

As reported by Hungary Today, on Friday’s opening day, Hungarian competitors started with two medals. In the K1 short-course (3.4 km) marathon, Vanda Kiszli finished second behind world champion Melina Andersson of Sweden. Four-time world champion and two-time Olympic sprint medalist Balázs Adolf won another Hungarian medal in the canoe event, finishing third.

After the opening day on Friday, Hungarian competitors also won two medals on Saturday.

After Friday’s bronze medal, Balázs Adolf was again outstanding, taking home the first Hungarian gold medal in the long-course marathon event.

In this event, Simon Sebestyén finished 10th, Máté Zsidai 11th, while in the women’s race, Sára Lili Matkovics finished 6th and Dóra Hegedűs 11th.

while Zsófia Czéllai-Vörös finished eighth and Panna Csépe ninth.

On Saturday, the sprint events also began, with two-time Olympic silver medalist Ádám Varga, who finished 5th in the 500m.

In Sunday’s sprint events, Hungary’s Balla Virág and Canadian canoeist Sophia Jensen and the mixed kayak pair of Anna Lucz, Anna Szántói and Tamás Szántói-Szabó made it to the final. The former finished 4th and the latter 5th in the 500m. In addition to the sprint events, the Hungarians were also competing in the marathon on the last day. In the men’s kayak traditional distance race (21 km) Adrián Boros finished 8th and Olivér Varga 9th in a field of 18, thus the Hungarians did not win any medals on the last day of the competition.

The Hungarian team finished with one gold, two silver and one bronze.

This was the first Super Cup in which representatives of several disciplines – sprint, marathon, slalom, and polo – competed at the same time. A total of 500 athletes took part in the three-day event.
