The 2024 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships program, which took place between August 23 and 25 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, concluded with the 5,000m finals, reports Magyar Nemzet. The Hungarian team finished on the top of the medal table.

The Hungarian competitors won one gold and two silver medals on the first final day of the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships on Saturday. Emese KÅ‘halmi started with a dominant start-finish victory in the K-1 1,000m race. The 22-year-old athlete was in the lead already in the first meters and at the halfway mark she had a half a boat length advantage over the Belarusian star Maryna Litvinchuk. The latter was the only kayaker to keep up with her, however the Hungarian athlete crossed the finish line first with a huge lead.

This is Emese KÅ‘halmi’s fifth world adult title, making her one of the sport’s perennial champions.

In the C-1 1,000m, Giada Bragato did a great job. She was in 3-4th place at the 500m mark, but then overtook her Chinese rival in the second half of the distance. The 25-year-old canoeist from Tiszaújváros (northern Hungary) was unable to prevent Belarus’ Alena Nazdrova from winning, but finished in second place.

Likewise, Balázs Adolf and Dániel Fejes celebrated a silver medal in the C-2 1,000m final. The two competitors were competing at the Paris Olympics two weeks ago.

On Sunday, in the men’s C-1 5,000m, Balázs Adolf, the defending champion, reached the third place of the podium. The four-time world champion Adolf came into the first leg in third place behind his Polish and Moldovan rivals, and the order remained the same as Wiktor GÅ‚azunow virtually won the race start to finish, with Adolf finishing third, almost 57 seconds behind.

The World Championships program ended with the kayakers’ events. Emese KÅ‘halmi has already won world and European titles in the K-1 5,000m, triumphed in the K-1 1,000m on Saturday and was part of the Hungarian mixed kayak quartet that won silver in the 500m on Sunday. The 22-year-old athlete took the lead and confidently beat the field, winning the event by about 16 seconds.

In addition, the mixed kayak pair of KincsÅ‘ Takács and Jonatán Hajdu and the mixed kayak quartet of Laura Ujfalvi, Márk Opavszky, Emese KÅ‘halmi, Gergely Balogh also finished second in the 500m, while Janka Rugonfalvi-Kiss finished third in the women’s K-1 200m.

The 22-strong Hungarian delegation finished the World Championships with two gold, four silver and two bronze medals.
