A 22-year-old man was sentenced to eight years in prison on Friday for possession and distribution of child pornography material.
Paphos criminal court heard the man was arrested in June in the context of investigations in the sexual abuse of minors. Police had been notified through Europol that an account user on a social media platform had uploaded sexual abuse material.
The man was arrested on August 17 and his residence was searched, where police found a laptop and mobile phone, which were confiscated for forensic tests. The 22-year-old was placed in custody and charges were pressed.
The court examined the evidence and found the defendant guilty and he was handed concurrent prison sentences, the longest of which was eight years.
