Brussels artist Antoine Goldschmidt bounces laser light and sound around the unique spheres of Brussels’ Atomium in the temporary exhibition Echoes of Distant Lights.

From 18 December to 4 January 2026, visitors are invited on a visual and auditory journey to the heart of the cosmos.

The Atomium is a fitting setting for the year-long show. As a heritage symbol of Belgium and an icon of progress and technology, it is resolutely turning towards digital creation by dedicating its entire programming to electronic technologies.

Completed in 1958 for the Brussels’ World’s Fair, the internationally successful Expo was considered a turning point for Belgium in its unwavering belief in the sciences.

An additional sphere of the Atomium is now devoted to digital art, inviting artists to transform the space with monumental and immersive creations.

The founder of Magicstreet studio, Goldschmidt has taken the opportunity to fuse his passion for light with the unique metal structure of the landmark Atomium.

Highlighting and playing with the edges of the sphere, the space transforms into a stellar capsule to transport visitors into distant universes. Laser beams pass through a suspended glass sculpture, producing organic patterns inspired by celestial landscapes: nebulae, galaxies and distant stars.

The title of the installation evokes the poetic exploration of time and the universe, in which each ray appears to be “an echo of vanished worlds”.

On the lower floor of the structure, images of celestial objects captured by the Hubble and James Webb telescopes are projected onto phosphorescent surfaces. The installation is accompanied by an original sound creation, composed by Brussels artist and musician Ofer Smilansky.
