The clocks go back this weekend; three cross-country night trains will be affected
Most of us will get an extra hour in bed; some will spend that hour in a motionless train.
The annual shift from daylight saving time to standard Central European Time (CET), which takes place every October, will happen this weekend.
People in Slovakia will get an extra hour of sleep. However, the time change, which occurs overnight between Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, will affect night trains.
Three long-distance trains operated by Slovak Railways (ZSSK) will stop at selected stations during the time change and will resume their journeys after an hour's pause.
The time shift will affect two night trains between Bratislava and Bánovce nad Ondavou, as well as an international train to Prague.
The night train heading to Bratislava will spend one hour in Ružomberok during the time change, departing at 02:07 CET.
The night train from Bratislava to Bánovce nad Ondavou via Košice will pause in Liptovská Teplá, before departing at 02:06 CET. The stop will be for operational reasons, and boarding or disembarking passengers will not be possible.
The international train to Prague will stop in Čadca, departing at 02:13 CET. The national carrier is reminding passengers that the time change will affect overnight trains in neighbouring countries.
Trains entering Slovakia after three o'clock in the morning will already be running according to CET.
In Bratislava, night bus services will run one extra departure – departures between 2:00 and 3:00 will operate according to both daylight saving and standard time.
In Slovakia, the biannual time change has occurred since 1979.
