A valuable log granary that is more than 120-year old will be transported to the open-air Museum of the Liptov Village located in the town of Pribylina below the High Tatras mountain range.

It is the last original building of its kind still standing in Pribylina, reports The Slovak Spectator's sister publication My Liptov.

The building was acquired by the Liptov Museum, which includes the Pribylina open-air museum, from a donor last year. They inherited the granary from their grandfather, who probably built it after his wedding in 1904.

The museum workers will place it in the spot where, according to the original plans for the open-air museum, there was supposed to be a yard with brick houses typical for the Liptov region, including outbuildings.

"Originally, a copy of the granary from the village of Liptovské Matiašovce was supposed to be built here. That is why we are happy that we were able to include an original building into the collection," said Martin Hromada, director of the Liptov Museum.

Granaries were farm buildings mostly separated from residential buildings. People often built them on the outskirts of villages. They stored food supplies, mostly cereals, but also textiles, tools and valuables.

The log granary is not the only novelty in the open-air museum, which is one of the most visited places in Liptov region. The civic association Society of Friends of the Liptov Village Museum recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. On the occasion of the anniversary, its board decided to donate a Neo-Gothic historical organ bought in 2002 from the village of Vrbov to the Liptov Museum.

In addition, it financed its restoration and installation. It is worth more than €50,000 and is located in the church from Liptovská Mara.
