Former special prosecutor Dušan Kováčik has been found guilty in a second corruption case by the Specialised Criminal Court. This case revolves around a €50,000 bribe concealed in a hollowed-out book in 2016.

According to the prosecution, the money came from businessman Peter Košč, also known as ‘Mr. X’, in exchange for Kováčik’s assistance in burying investigations into two separate cases.

Upon arriving at the courthouse on Tuesday, September 3, Kováčik confidently stated that the verdict would be “fair”.

This case differs from the one for which Kováčik was previously imprisoned. Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer) had suspended Kováčik’s sentence in the earlier case several weeks ago.

Tuesday’s verdict does not immediately jeopardise Kováčik’s temporary freedom.
