Controversial High Tatras tower reopened, its operator wants it elsewhere
Building one of the tallest of its kind.
On Saturday, the Tatras Tower sightseeing tower in the Štrbské Pleso resort was reopened to the public by a new operator.
Based on a bankruptcy ruling, a subsidiary of Tatry Mountain Resorts (TMR) has become the new tenant.
"It is a tourism product, and when the opportunity arose, we applied to lease it as a first step towards possible ownership," said TMR Chairman of the Board Igor Rattaj, as quoted by the SITA newswire.
An attractive feat, but not for the Tatras

According to Rattaj, it is difficult to predict who will own the tower in the future at the moment.
"If we were to own it, I would like to get it out of the High Tatras, hopefully with the support of the public. It's an attractive architectural feat, but it doesn't belong in this place," he said.
The 53-metre-high tower has a 15-degree tilt and is located at an altitude of 1,367 metres. The tower includes a dry 61-meter-long toboggan, a walking net and a glass footbridge.
The sightseeing tower was first opened to the public in 2021. It is one of the tallest in Europe. Since the beginning of its construction in 2019, it has been accompanied by negative reactions not only from the locals.
Back then, more than 8,000 people signed the petition for the cancellation of the construction.
