What politicians say about attack on Donald Trump

Slovak politicians have condemned the assassination attempt on US presidential candidate Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania.

Taking to social media, Prime Minister and Smer Chair Robert Fico used the event to criticise the media and opposition, comparing it to the situation in Slovakia.

"If the attacker against Trump had known Slovak, the former would only have needed to read Denník N, Sme or Aktuality to get the impression of 'dealing with' the unruly former US president. It's the same thing," he wrote in a Facebook post.

"And now we will see urges to reconcile, calm down and forgive."

PM Fico himself is the victim of a failed assassination attempt that occurred on May 15 during an out-of-home government session in Handlová, western Slovakia. He has been slowly returning to work since July.

President Peter Pellegrini also condemned the attack, saying that he is deeply concerned about the rise of violence in politics around the world. KDH chair Milan Majerský echoed the sentiment.

Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry headed by Juraj Blanár (Smer) condemned the attack as well.

"No one, neither PM Robert Fico nor former US President Donald Trump, deserves to be shot at because of their political actions and opinions," stated Progresívne Slovensko chair Michal Šimečka, adding that violent incidents must not be a pretext for exploiting power or for fighting against the basic values of democracy.

The taste of legendary sausages

A mildly spicy paprika flavour, juiciness, and a snapping sausage casing. These are the basic distinguishing features of well-known Spiš sausages, or Spišské párky in Slovak.

Spiš sausages have survived two world wars, a socialist planned economy, and the privatisation following the 1989 Velvet Revolution. People can still buy them in shops today. Interestingly, the recipe has no patent.
