Social media was awash with posts of shock and mourning following the death of Alejandro 'il-Babx' Brincat who was the first victim of a road traffic accident in 2025.
Brincat's last football club, Vittoriosa Stars, was amongst the first to take to social media to pay their last respects to a "true gentleman and a highly respected player," amongst other clubs he previously played for such as Rabat Ajax.
Fellow footballer Donovan 'Id-Drinu' expressed how he spent a sleepless night asking himself how it could have been Brincat since they had met just the day before and picked up a conversation on their mutual passion: football. He said that little did he know that it would be the last time he would ever see Brincat again.
Kris Bugeja looked back fondly to the last match he had played with Brincat, whose team won the MAFA Xmas Cup, and pointed out that he was the star player of the match with "all the cameras on him." Bugeja expressed his disappointment that now, he and Brincat could never be on the same team "as they had agreed."
Jurgen D'Amato of the Zebbug Rangers said that Brincat was his first "acquisition" on entering the football business and expressed his admiration for Brincat's skill "to score goals in every way possible," and ambition that had him thinking a season ahead.
Meanwhile, Lashia Ellul was left waiting for Brincat, only for him never to arrive before taking to Facebook "trembling" in disbelief since Brincat had spoken to her a few mere minutes before his demise.
The man's former employer, GasanZammit motors, said that Alejandro will always be remembered by the GasanZammit family as a joyful and bright young man, "who will be sorely missed by all of us. We would like to extend our condolences to his family, especially his young daughters who he cherished the most."
The Malta FA also extended its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, teammates, and loved ones of Alejandro Brincat. "Our thoughts are with all those affected during this difficult time. May he rest in peace"
