Labour Party administrations have given pensioners a better quality of life, the Labour Party has said.
"As of this month, Budget 2025 social measures are being implemented. This includes €87 million in allowances from which 119,000 people are set to benefit. This in stark contrast to PN led administrations that raised pensionable age from 61 to 65; increased national insurance contributions by 10 years for a person to be able to take a pension - that is, from 30 to 40 years; and effected changes in pensionable income which meant that having worked an extra 4 years, and paid an extra 10 years of NI, pensioners would still get a lower pension."
"A PN government had also discriminated between people born before 1962 and those born after. This meant that he left today's pensioners with just 2/3 of COLA. Labour Party administrations reversed the PN's unjust measures with regards to pensioners and did so robustly and convincingly."
"A PL government removed the unjust anomaly which made a distinction between those born pre and post 1962; it increased pensioners with more than €70 weekly in 10 years; removed tax on pensions; introduced a multitude of positive initiatives to boost pensioners income and ensure that they have a better quality of life; and doubled the investment made in pensions and other social benefits - today it totals an impressive €1,500 million. Pensioners know that it is only a Labour Party government that can guarantee them a better quality of life. It's track record speaks for itself. The PN has a poor track record on pensions and pensioners. It lacks credibility and cannot be trusted."
