Two men who were arrested on Thursday after they had fled from an aircraft that performed an emergency landing at the Malta International Airport, and another man who was being held under arrest at Mater Dei hospital in connection with the same case, were returned to their home country, the police said.
The three men, all from Morocco, two of whom are 28-years-old and one who is 34, have also been issued with a prohibition order from Malta and the Schengen area, the police said.
In total, four men had fled from the airport. The police are still looking for the other two (photo). Anyone with information about there whereabouts is asked to contact the police on 21 224001 / 119 or contact the nearest police station citing case 1/2025.
The aircraft had been forced to make an emergency landing after a Moroccan passenger requested medical treatment.
Malta International Airport also issued a statement earlier today detailing how the four people had fled. It said that the four passenger escapees had managed to evade members of the Armed Forces and Immigration Police on Thursday by jumping out from the back of the aircraft while members of the disciplined forces were stationed at the front of the airplane.
