The Labour Party has returned to full membership of Socialists International after an absence of a decade, following a delisting at the end of 2014.
The Labour Party had originally joined the socialist grouping in 1949 but had been relegated to observer status in 2012 for not paying its membership fees. It was delisted in 2014.
In a statement on Thursday, the PL, without mentioning its past in the organisation, said that it had become a full member within Socialists International.
In a letter addressed to the International Secretary of the Labour Party, John Grech, the General Coordinator of Socialists International, Chantal Kambiwa, expressed her satisfaction and stressed that the Malta Labour Party is a dynamic partner that can make a very important contribution in spreading the values of this organization, particularly in the Mediterranean region.
Kambiwa concluded by saying that she is looking forward to working hand in hand with the Labour Party while she is eager to welcome the ideas and suggestions of the Party.
PL International Secretary John Grech said that the aim of the Labour Party's membership in Socialist International is to further spur leftist principles and ideas with foreign social-democratic parties, which are affiliated with this international organisation spread in around 100 countries around the world.
