eSkills Malta Foundation is set to be integrated into the Maltese Digital Innovation Authority, the government announced Monday.
The two entities are be integrated in a move that will streamline digital education and make use of resources more efficiently to put Malta at the forefront of digital skills in the era of AI, the government said.
As of January 2025, the functions of the eSkills Malta Foundation will be incorporated into the structures of the Maltese Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) which will serve to optimise resources and consolidate the digital innovation ecosystem in Malta. Additionally, the integration will allow the reskilling and upskilling programmes to be implemented in a more holistic manner, alongside the MDIA's mandate and work on the eSkills Malta Foundation. All within the wider strategy which will now include the work of the DiHubMT.
This approach will help address the needs of the industry with regards to digital skills more effectively and was agreed upon by both the Government and the Malta Chamber of Commerce. Furthermore, it will be a strategic opportunity to improve digital skills in Malta as Artificial Intelligence gains more importance, particularly following the EU's AI Act.
Minister for Enterprise Silvio Schembri noted how the integration ensures that digital skills will be "better coordinated and synergise, which not only improves the competitivity of the digital economy but also puts Malta at the forefront of AI literacy." On his part, CEO of the MDIA Kenneth Brincat pointed out that the integration will offer practical solutions for societal challenges and businesses.
