US-President elect Donald Trump has named Somers Farkas as the next US ambassador to Malta.

Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump described Somers as a "model, philanthropist, documentary producer, and very successful businesswoman."

She previously served on Trump's President's Commission on White House Fellowships. He said she "raised Millions of Dollars for charity, including for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Alzheimer's Associate, Lighthouse Guild, the New York Women's Foundation and, as a Trustee of the New York City Police Foundation where she has always BACKED THE BLUE."

Following her nomination, she will need to be confirmed by the US Senate.

If confirmed, she would replace the current US ambassador to Malta, Constance J. Milstein, who was appointed in 2022
