The Commissioner for Standards in Public Life has completely dismissed unfounded accusations by the Nationalist Party's Spokesperson for Justice Karol Aquilina regarding a Magisterial Inquiry regarding the tragic death of Jean Paul Sofia.

Aquilina had made allegations, in which today, a report by the Standards Commissioner confirmed that Prime Minister Robert Abela and Minister Jonathan Attard did not breach the code of ethics when they informed the public about the delay of the magisterial inquiry.

The "extremist branch in the Nationalist Party which orders the Leader what to do" had reported to the Prime Minister and Minister Attard because they had carried out their duties, the PL said.

Indeed vengeful Opposition and fake news behaviour that only intends to try and score political points, the PL said..

In the report by the Standards Commissioner, Chief Justice Emeritus Joseph Azzopardi stressed that it is not correct to say that the Prime Minister and the Justice Minister came in possession of information which they had no right to receive. Moreover, by a mere mathematical calculation one would also have reached the conclusion that the inquiry report would not have been completed by the time indicated.

But the Opposition is blind to partisan politics and only intends to spread unfounded accusations. Truth always resurfaces, the PL said.
