There is ongoing politicisatio

A new student journal based in MCAST Mosta and the University of Malta, 'Djarju tal-Poplu,' has said that there is ongoing politicisation around the MCAST student strike.

The Students' Committee at MCAST issued a statement on the new student journal, saying that over 100 leaflets have been distributed by Djarju tal-Poplu.

The journal reported that MCAST students have distributed leaflets on the strike, with student organisations asking why this situation is happening.

"Why are two big entities and the government, supposedly representing the interests of the people, have yet to increase the wages of educational workers, despite having the supposed 'accumulated wealth' which the state demonstrates on the media, and which it has insisted upon having within Malta's 2025 Budget," the students said.

At yesterday's protest, youth activists chanted slogans such as "It is right to rebel" and "to continue the protest movement and not stop" and criticised the lack of action on the government's part, the statement said.

The statement said that the content and action of Djarju tal-Poplu was met with heavy support from both lecturers and students.

A portrait of independence leader Manwel Dimech was shown in the protest, demonstrating the "determined, progressive hold" over the protest and demonstrating a politicisation of the MCAST strike movement.
