In a letter sent to Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa', NGO Repubblika, through lawyer Jason Azzopardi, has expanded on the complaint it had filed against Ministers Clayton Bartolo and Clint Camilleri, also asking for an investigation into Malta's nominee to the EU Commission Glenn Micallef.
A report by the Standards Commissioner found that Bartolo and Camilleri breached ethics when Bartolo's girlfriend, now wife, was given a job she was not qualified for. A sitting of the Parliament's Standards in Public Life Committee, held on Thursday, adopted the conclusions of the Standards Commissioner's report with unanimous agreement. The two ministers shall have the opportunity to make their submissions before the Standards Committee next Wednesday.
Repubblika filed an additional complaint in a letter to the Police Commissioner, calling on him to launch criminal proceedings against ministers Clint Camilleri and Clayton Bartolo as well as Michael Buhagiar, head of Camilleri's Gozo Secretariat, on the basis of giving false testimony to the Commissioner of Standards in Public Life.
It further requested criminal proceedings against, Amanda Muscat for perjury before a public official who at law had the power to administer an oath on the 4th of May 2023.
Repubblika wants additional charges against Michael Buhagiar, as well as John Grima, Chief Policy Officer of the Ministry for Gozo for perjury before a public official who at law had the power to administer an oath on the 14th of November 2023.
It also wants the two ministers, Muscat, Buhagiar and Grima charged with a criminal conspiracy to commit crimes.
Repubblika also asked the Police Commissioner to investigate Glenn Micallef, then Chief of Staff within the Office of the Prime Minister, on the possibility of his involvement, collusion and complicity in approving Muscat's "Phantom job" with the Ministry, stating that he knew her appointment was "fraudulent."
