The much-anticipated ŻiguŻajg Arts Festival for Children and Young People begins today, launching 10 days of captivating performances, interactive exhibitions, and creative workshops across Valletta. Running until November 24, this 14th edition invites young audiences and families to engage with a vibrant mix of artistic experiences that inspire imagination and self-expression.

Recognised as Malta's leading arts festival for young people, ŻiguŻajg 2024 brings together local and international artists to present dynamic theatre, dance, music, visual arts, and storytelling. This year's festival creates immersive environments where children can explore cultural stories, encounter dreamlike sensory worlds, and engage in humorous, action-packed performances-all designed to nurture curiosity and foster emotional growth.

Alongside performances, ŻiguŻajg offers hands-on workshops for children to learn new creative techniques such as clay modelling, photography, and drawing. These workshops encourage self-expression, emotional exploration, and a deeper understanding of how art can transform everyday experiences.

ŻiguŻajg also expands to Gozo this year, bringing select performances to local schools to foster creativity and reflection in younger audiences. The festival's broad programme not only entertains but also builds essential skills, fostering empathy, critical thinking, and an appreciation for diverse perspectives.

ŻiguŻajg is an inspiring festival, a celebration of creativity that nurtures the minds of our children and young people. With each performance and workshop, they gain not only entertainment but also valuable life lessons, discovering beauty in diversity, self-expression, and community.

Dr. Lydia Abela, the patron for ŻiguŻajg, commented on the festival's transformative influence. "ŻiguŻajg is a vital platform for young people, giving them a space to express themselves, reflect on their emotions, and gain new perspectives. The arts here become a bridge to understanding their own experiences and help them develop into empathetic, socially aware individuals."

Rupert Cefai, Executive Chairman of Fondazzjoni Kreattività, spoke to the festival's lasting impact. "ŻiguŻajg continues to grow, offering meaningful and enriching experiences that resonate with our young audiences. Our commitment is to deliver a festival that reflects the importance of creativity in everyday life, helping children and young people appreciate the world through an artistic lens."

Festival Director Marta Vella shared her excitement for this year's programme, saying, "Our goal with ŻiguŻajg is to capture the imagination of young minds through diverse and immersive experiences. This year's festival includes a carefully curated blend of art forms designed to entertain, challenge, and inspire. We want each child to leave with memories and new perspectives that will stay with them."

As the festival unfolds, it offers children, young people, and families the chance to dive into the world of arts in ways that are engaging, thought-provoking, and fun. With each performance and workshop, ŻiguŻajg invites young people to explore new ideas, celebrate individuality, and enjoy a memorable experience that resonates well beyond the festival.

Meanwhile, today we are also announcing that the Call for Proposals for ŻiguŻajg 2025/2026 is open from Friday 15th November 2024 to Monday 6th January 2025 until noon. In this regard, we are inviting all creatives to share their project ideas with us, which will be considered for inclusion in the ŻiguŻajg Festival or the ŻiguŻajg Season. The selected projects will become part of a curated programme of events. For more information, please visit ziguzajg.org/call-for-proposals-zz/
