The tax credit for parents of children with disability has received a raise of €250 following the 2025 Budget, and it was expanded to parents who do not pay tax for reasons such as being on social benefits, The Ministry for Inclusion said on Wednesday.
The ministry said that as part of the measures of the 2025 Budget, a tax credit for parents of children with disability, administered by the Commission of Rights of People with Disability (CRPD) will increase from €500 to €750 to help them with the costs of specialized therapies. It said that this fund was also extended to parents of children who do not pay tax due to their not working or being on social benefits.
Minister for Inclusion Julia Farrugia said that the increase in the tax credit alongside the fact that they will be given to those who work or are on social benefits is proof of the government's efforts to keep on raising the quality of services offered to people with disability. "This project is part of our vision for a more inclusive Malta where every person with disability will have all the support to live independently and realize their potential."
The ministry also said that the Sonia Tanti Independent Living Facility in Hal Far operated by Agenzija Sapport is being renovated to improve its services through an investment of €700,000 and works are expected to be completed in 2025. It said that the facility will have improved accessibility, 2 ACTU clinics, a play area used during assessment sessions, clinics for the assessment of wheelchairs, and a sensory room, amongst others.
