The Labour Government is acting in a partisan manner even in such an important sector as that of youth, the Nationalist Party said Saturday. It is clear that in a structured and deliberate way, the Government is excluding the Nationalist Opposition from every initiative or effort related to the youth sector.
While the Partit Nazzjonalista is working to strengthen the voice and participation of young people in every sector, it is obvious that the Parliamentary Secretary responsible for youth is doing everything to exclude the Opposition from this work, particularly in matters related to Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, a statement signed by MP Bernice Bonello said.
This is evident in every organised activity, where the Opposition is being completely ignored, including in activities organised by the Parliamentary Secretariat itself but also by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.
Here are a few examples of this partisan attitude by the Government, all of which have occurred in recent weeks and months:
- The Jumpstart Youth Festival organised by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ
- The seminar Asking Youth Organisations
- The summer programme Diving into Summer organised by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ
- The Youth Empowerment Award organised by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ
- The campaign Give a Damn. Go vote to encourage young people to vote in the European Parliament election
- The conference We need youths.
In all these activities or projects, the Opposition was completely excluded and was intentionally not invited to attend or contribute, the PN said.
It is a shame that while the Partit Nazzjonalista is offering its help to strengthen this sector, the government refuses to collaborate and fails to understand that joint work between the Government and Opposition would be much more beneficial and far more effective in moving this sector forward.
Young people are the present and the future of our country, therefore the PN believes it is important that there is cooperation between the Government and the Opposition in this sector, the PN said.
