Since the European Anti-Fraud Office known as the OLAF decided to drop their investigation into sheep farmer Kurt Buhagiar, the Labour Party called on PN MEP Peter Agius to apologise for his allegations which it deemed "unacceptable".

The Labour Party said that it expects PN MEP Peter Agius to make a public apology after he was "caught lying" to OLAF and added that this is unacceptable for a PN MEP. The PL said that Agius was caught out in making "unfounded allegations" prompting an investigation by OLAF which, it said, found no reason to investigate the alleged abuse of EU funds for the building of sheep farms.

The issue revolved round a report filed by the PN MEP to OLAF requesting an investigation into the usage of European Funds by farmer Kurt Buhagiar who used his property for around 100 sheep. OLAF closed the investigation due to the lack of evidence of financial irregularity or fraud.

The Labour Party said that one would expect PN leader Bernard Grech to break the silence when "confronted with a lie by a PN MEP and force him to apologise." It said that this is the least Grech can do if he wants to show that he is truly the leader and not forced to lead as he is told.

The Labour Party concluded that the Maltese people expect their European representatives to take their work more seriously on both national and international fora.
