The Partit Nazzjonalista said Thursday that a court judgement handed down today confirmed that the selection and promotion process within the Police Force was flawed.

In this judgement, reference was made to the process described as vitiated by former Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar back in 2016. Regarding this selection process for promotion to the position of Assistant Commissioner, the Court was clear: "The selection process appears to have been merely a front for a list of applicants who seemed to have already been pre-selected, regardless of their merit."

This judgment also follows the conclusions of the Ombudsman's Office in 2017, which described this promotion process within the Police Force as a "process that was flawed, with the former Police Commissioner presiding over a parody of a formal process" and that "there is no confidence that the selection was conducted properly."

The PN, through its MPs Darren Carabott and Karol Aquilina, stated that this judgement lifts the mask of the Labour Government, which has boasted so much about meritocracy and how one can succeed through their abilities - when, in fact, the Court found that this official, who applied for a promotion to Assistant Commissioner, never had a chance of being given the position, regardless of whether he was qualified for it or not.

This is yet another judgement that exposes how the Labour Government operates, the PN said.

The Partit Nazzjonalista expresses its solidarity and support for the officers within the Police Force who wish to see a change in the way the Force is run and want to see their careers advance according to their abilities.

A new Nationalist Government is the only hope for this to happen, the party said.
