Birkirkara scored two second half goals to beat Hibernians and move temporarily to the top of the standings.

These two sides were still unbetaen this season and were both on top of the standings on the seven point mark. The game was a keenly contested one with both sides showing very good quality football and confirming that they will be among the protagonists this season.

The start was promising with Maia pouncing on a Hibs' defensive lapse and firing towards goal with Sacco saving the danger. Hibs had their first attempt on fifteen minutes with a Jurgen Degabriele sailing over the bar.

Two minutes later Paul Mbong went close with his shot missing the upright by a whisker. On 23 minutes a Hibs corner action with the ball coming towards Bjorn Kristensen who blasted high when well placed.

On 35 minutes a good run from Degabriele who passed towards

Falcone who was blocked in time by Coppola, and at the other end Paul Mbong again tried his luck from a distance but the ball missed the target. In stoppage time Sacco saved his side when Coppola passed towards Satariano who was denied by the Hibs custodian.

The second half was less intense but the game was still vivid and balanced till half way through the half when Birkirkara broke the deadlock. A haphazard clearance from the Hibs defence was met by Gaitan who headed past a surprised and helpless Sacco.

Birkirkara were now in the driving seat and sealed the issue eight minutes from time with a gem of a goal when substitute Siafa rocketed in the top corner from long range.

Hibs were now on their knees and were rather unlucky too not to score at least a consolation goal when a Kurt Shaw shot was deflected by Volpe with the ball finishing against the crossbar.
