Premier League: Ten-man Greens

Floriana who played for much of the second half with ten men managed to obtain a good 1‐1 draw against champions Hamrun Spartans.

This was the second draw for the Greens after the thrilling 3‐ 3 draw against Melita, but this result is surely more presti‐ gious for Floriana in a repeat of last season's duel with the Spartans.

For Hamrun it was a lost opportunity to move five points clear of Floriana, even though in such an early stage of the campaign.

Playing for almost 40 minutes with numerical superiority the Spartans left the pitch rather disappointed as they surely should have taken full advantage of the situation.

Floriana couldn't have had a better start as took the lead in their first real attack after only three minutes when Mattia Veselji passed towards Jake Grech who served Dunstan Vella who beat Bonello with a beautiful shot.

Hamrun were not dishearted by this early setback and ten minutes later Talison had a shot just missing the target after a good move started by Luke Montebello.

On 24 minutes Hamrun Spartans drew level when Joseph Mbong was brought down by the Floriana custodian, and from the penalty spot Luke Montebello sent Mafoumbi the wrong way.

On the half hour the Greens went close again with another move started by Veselji who served Fernandinho whose shot was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Bonello.

At the start of the second half the game had a twist when Flo‐ riana were reduced to ten men when one of their best players Veselji received a second booking.

This was a sever setback for Floriana who however stood their ground and kept their composure.

Hamrun took the initiative but failed to create scoring chances for the remaining of the match and Floriana deservedly obtained an important point against the champions.
