The Labour Party's international secretary, Marc Vella Bonnici, has become the latest top party official to say he will not be retaining his role.

Vella Bonnici follows in the footsteps of others like president Ramona Attard and CEO Randolph De Battista, apart from the two deputy leaders Chris Fearne and Daniel Micallef, who are all not contesting to keep their position at next month's general conference.

In a post on Facebook, Vella Bonnici said he had spent a "wonderful time" in his role under two leaders during which Labour obtained historic victories.

He said that his decision to quit was taken "months ago" and that he had spoken to Prime Minister Robert Abela about it.
