The President of the Labour Party, Ramona Attard, has announced that she will not seek re-election in the party's September internal elections, and said that she will also not be contesting for any other party post.
Attard said that after occupying this post for four years she is "ready for a new challenge." Attard stated that she will not contest any role in the party's internal elections in September.
She did not say what this "new challenge" will be during her four-minute announcement video, published online on her personal Facebook page.
Attard stated that she took this decision despite being urged to extend her term as PL President by party delegates, Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), and the Prime Minister himself. She also remarked that amongst the advice she received for her future with the party, some told her to "contribute more."
"After four years in the Party's administration, I can say that today I feel ready for a new challenge," Attard said. She also remarked that she wishes to continue working alongside the Prime Minister and the entire team at the Labour Party.
